Hair reduction can be an expensive business, particularly if you want to maintain a clean and hairless presentation and you plan on visiting a beauty salon every two to eight weeks in order to top up your hair reduction. However, what other options are there out there on the market? Is there anything that is superior to waxing and provides more permanent results? Luckily, recent advances in technology allow both men and women to put aside the more temporary forms of hair reduction and opt for what is now termed "permanent hair reduction", this term is typically associated with treatments such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal or Laser Hair Removal. Another option which is also quite popular and many people opt for is electrolysis.

The more traditional option amongst the permanent hair reduction options is electrolysis - this treatment involves send electrical currents down the hair follicle and destroying it at its root. This technique is approved by the FDA and is typically very successful in limiting further hair growth. The main problem with electrolysis however is that it's expensive, can take a significant amount of time, it's only suitable for smaller areas of the body and it can be painful (how painful depends on your levels of pain tolerance). The average electrolysis treatment can set you back around $60, some people report that they have attended upwards of two years of electrolysis treatment before receiving the desired results.
A second option for permanent hair reduction is laser hair removal. This option basically consists of a laser beam being applied to the hair follicle, which again, much like electrolysis, breaks the follicle down and prevents further hair growth. This being said, laser hair reduction is not a permanent option however it lasts for a far longer period of time that other conventional and more temporary methods such as waxing or shaving. Laser hair removal typically costs upwards of $600 for a single treatment.
